Chicago Skyway & Dcook - Lager EP

1. Bad Driver (Aroy Edit)
2. Lager Nord
3. Lager (Obsolete Music Technology Remix)

Real raw hardware House excursions. MOS label head and Dutch Techno legend Aroy Dee edits the squirming acid synths, arcing pads and jakk beats of 'Bad Driver' for that proper MOS effect, while Chicago Skyway & Dcook's original 'Lager Nord' is a must for fans of Legowelt or Morphosis. Steven Tang aka Obsolete Music Technology chimes in with a lush remix of 'Lager', layered with emotive, Detroit-style synthlines...www.boomkat.com

Levon Vincent – Man Or Mistress

A Man Or Mistress
B1 Making Headway
B2 No Regrets

The return of Levon Vincent!!! It's over 18 months since he dropped the masterful 'Double Jointed Sex Freak', and aside from a couple of low key remixes on Moodmusic and UQ we've been left starving for new material. As expected, his production is super right and tight, built for soundsystems capable of handling his signature bass weight and those massive kicks. Spanning the A-side 'Man Or Mistress' haughtily minces up to a teasing square bass before stealthily unleashing an almighty synthline for macho movers and the ambiguous Adonis inside you. By the track's end it's pure tops-off time. Flip him over and 'Making Headway' serves a non-too-subtle arrangement of panting, barking noises over thrusting subs with that wide-style New York spaciousness, and finally 'No Regrets' deploys sweetly forlorn vocal licks on a more warped kicker for the midday dancing crew. Right on - KILLER!!!...www.boomkat.com

Omar-S - It Can Be Done, But Only I Can Do It

01. Solely Supported
02. Supported Solely
03. Look Hear Watch
04. I Come Over
05. Ganymeade
06. You Wish
07. Over You Too
08. It Can Be Done, But Only I Can Do It
09. Nite’s Over Compton
10. Here’s Your Trance, Now Dance
11. Skynet 2 B
12. Bobien Larkin

In the producer's typically forthright style, the album is titled It Can Be Done, But Only I Can Do It, and will see release on his FXHE Records imprint as early as next week according to Juno Plus. The album is a follow-up to 2005's Just Ask The Lonely, and is a collection of familiar tracks and unreleased work spanning raw deep house, melodic techno, acid and bawdy downbeat. Omar-S's anthem from earlier this year, "Here’s Your Trance, Now Dance" is included, as are the previously released tracks "Solely Supported" and "Skynet 2 B", as well as "Over to You," a rework of "U", from his lauded Fabric mix of 2009...www.residentadvisor.net

Paperclip People - PE 20 Remixes: 4 My Peepz

01. 4 My Peepz (Dubfire Rework)
02. Parking Garage Politics (Loco Dice Remix)

One of Carl Craig's trillion monikers is Paperclip People and here, the Detroit don serves up the 4 My Peepz EP on his own label Planet E, remixed by two of the biggest names in the game: Dubfire and Loco Dice. Pounding, head strong and dirty techno is on the menu and Dubfire's rework of "4 My Peepz", despite its almost hip-hop-esque title, sticks firmly to the underground with its heavy kick drums and whirring sirens. Up "Parking Garage Politics" gets a remix from Loco Dice; minimal and sparse as it is, it's constructed in just the right way as it builds and progresses into a thoroughly hypnotic affair - Juno's pick of the two. Highly recommended stuff...www.boomkat.com

Martyn - Left Hander / Shook Up

1. Left Hander
2. Shook Up

Man-like-Martijn Deykers slinks into motion with two outright killers on 3024. Remarkably, this is Martyn's first solo 12" of 2010, a year in which he dropped a crucial Fabric mix and expanded his label's horizons to draw blunted and Techno sounds into the fold. With 'Left Hander' he cuts in from a broken house angle, sharing certain rhythmic traits with Altered Natives while firmly retaining his feel for soulful, classically-informed Detroit melody in grand style. On the other side, 'Shook Up' goes one step duttier, dragging the drums down to a gruffly accented swing while sly strings, twinkling keys and fluttering synth motifs imagine some infectious fusion of mad effective South London and Detroit disciplines. Basically, this 12" is lethal and your turntables want it, badly!...www.boomkat.com

Alex O. Smith - Ultra Fine

A1. Ultra Fine One
A2. Ultra Fine Two
B1. Mid 90's

Alexander Omar Smith comes hard with three tracks of rugged acid for FXHE. These are essentially three variations on a tracky and hypnotic vibe ellicited from what sounds like a 606, 303 and some of that cryptic lo-fi magic he keeps in the top drawer. It's not really Chicago acid either, these tracks sound more like 'Sheet One' era Plastikman than owt from DJ Pierre and co, eschewing warm and groovy feelings for a tough driving Detroit style salted with Omar's processing methods for that dry rasping snap. Heavy and robust tackle from the master...www.boomkat.com

Lee Curtiss - The Mantra EP

1. The Mantra
2. Vibrant Member
3. Whatcha Need (Raw Cut)
4. Reverse Cares

The new swiss label CITYFOX starts with the two sides of detroit’s LEE CURTISS. on the a-side he shows his darker techno side with a phat smooth baseline and some wise poetry on “the mantra” as well as “vibrant member”, where he gives some advices how to handle a girl. on the b-side you can hear his housy heart and you realize, that this guy isn’t as though as you thought. “reverse caress” is a tooly horn bomb, “whatcha need” comes in with an euphoric hookline and is as simple as it’s raw and massive.

The Lab 01-Loco Dice finds NRK Music (already known for its Coast2Coast and Back In The Box series) inaugurating a new compilation series which will assume the form of a two-disc set of future-oriented electronic dance music. The first installment comes courtesy of the Tunisian-born and Düsseldorf-raised Loco Dice who has garnered attention for single releases on Minus, Cocoon, and Cadenza and a debut artist album on his own Desolat imprint. The Lab places him behind the decks for a deep and delectable set of grooving house music that spreads twenty-seven tracks across two very differently styled discs. The first half weaves fourteen tracks into an ultra-mobile and alluring mix that's heavy on percussion and bass, while the more vocal-oriented disc two sets its sights on the soulful sides of classic deep house, Detroit techno, and Chicago house.

Disc one slinks into position with tribal percussion and metronomic rhythm patterns (Akiko Kiyama's “Hakobi”) that grow in intensity and consequently entrancement as they effect segues from one cut to the next. Throughout the disc, Loco Dice keeps the focus on the bottom end by emphasizing percussion, house rhythms, and low-riding bass lines. The crack of the snare contrasts with the bright tingle of the triangle while a female voice whispers “Beautiful, beautiful,” after which a house plunge occurs with claps, funky hi-hats, and a thumping kick drum leading the charge. The African vibe moves to the forefront with an energized mix of kalimbas and chanting children in Chris Lattner's (what else?) “African Children.” The mix carries on through Robert Dietz's “Klondike” and Ben Klock's “Bones & Strings Dub” of Kerri Chandler's “Pong,” eventually concentrating its attention on a series of seductive deep house productions (with a few moments of driving, piano-driven Latin swing added for extra spice). MHM 1 (“Bubububadub”), Damian Schwartz & Guti (“Sals-n”), Terrence Dixon (a Mathias Kaden remix of “Below Radar”), and foundsound's Someone Else (“You Don't Got Me”) get face time before Alex Flatner (a Damian Schwartz remix of “Perfect Circles”) and Mirko Loko (“Serena”) take us out—a fine end to a sinuous and funky mix.

Plunging deep from the outset, the second half opens with the lush dreaminess of Nick Holder's “Inside Your Soul” and Jay Haze's “Mama Coca” but turns truly funky when Terry Lee Brown Jr.'s fabulous “Everyday” struts into position. Thereafter the mix spins its wheels for a few minutes but picks itself up the moment DJ Ali's “You Don't Know” arrives with its falsetto vocalizing, string stabs, and bass-pumping soul. A Plastic Avengers remix of Joseph Malik's “Believe and See” follows that's just as enticing, especially when the song's soulful vocal crosses paths with the deep groan of an acoustic bass. Franck Roger (“Take Off”), 95 North (“Forever Underground”), and Audio Soul Project (“Song For Fred”) perpetuate the late-night vibe, after which the mix starts to decompress before exiting via Tyree Cooper's utopian “Love.” Loco Dice professes to play “deep, groovy, chunky, driving, 123 Music for the terrace” and you'll find no shortage of it in this encompassing, 160-minute collection...www.textura.org

Detroit techno innovator Kevin Saunderson is set to release a remix collection of his work in June.

Often credited as the man that brought Detroit house and techno to the masses, Kevin Saunderson has certainly cemented his place in dance music history. Hits like "Big Fun," "Good Life," "Rock to the Beat" and "Good Love" have become era-defining tracks, be it in the club or on the radio, and they've recently had a spit and polish from the generation of producers that they arguably helped to create on Saunderson's History Elevate 12-inch series. The second disc of the forthcoming compilation, which goes under the same name, will compile the tracks from the vinyl singles and also include new remixes from Smith & Selway and Ben Sims ("Rock to the Beat"), Simian Mobile Disco ("Big Fun")...www.residentadvisor.net
