Aerea Negrot is best known as part of the revolving cast in Hercules & Love Affair: she sang on the group's latest album, Blue Songs, and performed with them on their recent tours. But the Venezuelan-born, Berlin-based artist was writing her own music long before Andy Butler and co came along—Arabxilla includes songs that were written as early as 2004. Much like her two 12-inches for BPitch Control, the album pairs electronic beats with her dynamic and multilingual lyrics, many of which chronicle her life since moving from London to Berlin. "The idea of the album was actually to use songs that document relationships and situations of my past seven years," she says. "I like to think of these songs like a theatre piece with several breaks and interludes."

The album is co-produced by Tobias Freund, AKA Tobias., the Berlin-based producer and mastering engineer who just released an album of his own.
