After more than a year in the making, nrk have announced seth troxler has mixed the next edition of the label’s in the lab series. due for release in october, it’s the detroit dandy’s second official mix cd following on from his boogybytes effort in february 2010. this time, though, the visionquest man has been allowed to stretch his legs over two cds.

he says… "my interpretation of the concept behind the lab series was to present ideas like a scientist working in some secret base off the cost of myanmar.... when night talk with spider monkeys has just gone too far, what do you do, whatʼs there left to do? i recorded this mix live using just decks and mixer (no ableton) in my friendʼs bedroom, which for many djs is their very own domestic lab. “

“disc one for me is somewhat of a straightforward mix of contemporary and classic house, a summary of my style, a little clip from this point in time, what iʼm know for and how i tend to present ideas when iʼm touring. for disc two i really wanted to showcase my interest in the wider landscape of electronic music outside of what i do in a club. i think this mix embodies that idea, not ableton-perfect, a little rough around the edges but interesting and human.."

having had a sneak preview i can tell you it’s worth getting excited about.... drifting through styles with purpose and groove, it smoothly swells and churns, builds and drops with a lively charisma. the second disc is more un-hinged and takes in intricate, broody sounds, otherworldly samples and weaves a tight, hypnotic thread from start to finish.

Being Germany's Gateway to the World, the port city Hamburg always had a special affinity to America. So, it's not surprising that Peter M. Kersten aka Lawrence has a deep musical and spiritual relation to the Detroit Techno aesthetics for more than ten years now. His label Dial Rec, which he runs together with Carsten Jost, stands more than almost any other European address for the value-conscious cultivation of high-quality melancholy Techno. After seven albums under his producer aliases Lawrence and Sten, Kersten now continues the perfection of his sound vision also as a DJ in a congenial way.

"Timeless" is far away from the dictate of the dogmatic obligation to currentness that DJs have to face nowadays, but celebrates electronic dance music as a timeless sensual component. With instinctive certainty, Kersten covers 16 years of living club history without ever losing the sight of the acoustic 'here and now', or even becoming the slightest bit anachronistically nostalgic. Instead, under his sensitive hands, milestones of minimalized Deep House like "Forever Monna" by Chez Damier, Ron Trent and Stacey Pullen (1995) or the 1999 club hit "Overcome" by Thomas Melchior/Baby Ford come together with contemporary and intensive hommages to Detroit Techno like Smallpeople & Rau's "Life Aquatic", Delano Smith's "My Life" or Pigon's fantastic Dub Tech romance "Beatmatching" from the 10-Years-Anniversary compilation of Dial Rec in a wonderful way.

Besides that, the mix features such well-known names like Aril Brikha, Isolée, the Ifach Collective and Robert Hood, before Roman Flügel sets a wistful final chord with "Brian Le Bon", a track based on Duran Duran's masterpiece "Save A Prayer", and Plaid finishes the mix with the crystalline "OI" from their classic album "Not For Threes" (Warp). Lawrence's mix literally breathes the serenity of a light-flooded Sunday morning somewhere between a modernist city and a wood glade, and thus gives his global artistic approach a suitable dimension.

Ostgut Ton have announced plans to release a mix album in conjunction with Berlin-based dubstep night Sub:stance. Since making its Berghain debut back in July 2008, Scuba, AKA Paul Rose, and Paul Fowler's Sub:stance parties have pretty much become the byword for forward-thinking Berlin bass music. Mala, Martyn, The Bug and Joker have been among the many names brought to the German capital over the last 18 months. The night's first birthday celebrations even saw the bash expand throughout the Berghain complex, with Stacey Pullen and Dan Curtin playing Panorama Bar. With all this in mind, it should come as no surprise that OsgutTon will be the home for the Sub:stance mix CD. Compiled and mixed by Rose himself, the disc represents a snapshot of the Scuba sound, with four of his own unreleased cuts making the grade alongside a healthy slab of material from his Hotflush imprint. While nicely varied in its scope and sound, the mix has an undoubted air of the dark side throughout, typified by appearances from Surgeon, Ramadanman and Shackleton.
