Cooly G - Landscapes / It’s Serious

1. Landscapes (ft. Simbad)
2. It’s Serious (ft. Karizma)

Cooly G re-enters our orbit on two stellar collaborations with House allies Simbad and Karizma. Looking every bit the futurist dancefloor queen on the sleeve, it's a stone-set reassurance - if needed - of her unique prowess when it comes to sumptuous yet rudely sensuous rhythm vybz. With Simbad on 'Landscapes' she scopes a stunning scene of tucked, Gurley-esque drum programming and astro-planing synth washes graced with her silk-cut vocals. It'd almost be a disrespect not to shut your eyes when dancing to this. Equally 'ardcore debted, and ruffer still 'It's Serious', produced with Karizma, locks off a more dextrous, ruthlessly cut-up tribal shake-down, pivoting off pointillist drums and steppin' on landmine bass plosions. In other words: f**kin' lethal. Highly recommended!...www.boomkat.com

GoldFFinch - Red Mask

1. Red Mask
2. Ovale

Funked-up ElectroTech from Belgian duo, Goldffinch, rolling right off their 'Dirtybird' drop for Airflex Labs. 'Red Mask' is an intensely taut and locked-on piece of dancefloor science, carving a fluid, frictionless groove from rolling, inter-locking synthlines and robust bass synced for bodily gratification. 'Ovale' is more reserved, working a jacked-up Electrobass sound powered by metronomic subbass throbs and stickier percussion. Test these on a big rig for optimal satisfaction...www.boomkat.com

Tickles - Call 4 Backup

1. Call 4 Backup
2. Da Growler
3. Crater Face
4. Zombie

Surefire Funky 'floor shakers from the Tickles production unit. 'Call 4 Backup's a bit of a beast, working the simple but deadly formula of Dutch Rave synths and infectious Funky swing, while 'Da Growler' tucks into a more percolatin' sort of dutty ruffige, and 'Crater Face' piles in with roguish bleeps and hardcore drum programming for the get down. Tip for the Funky fiends!...www.boomkat.com

Zed Bias - Biasonic Hotsauce: Birth Of The Nanocloud

01. Birth Of The Nanocloud Scene 1
02. Yagga feat. Serocee
03. Do It feat. Dynamite MC
04. Phoneline feat. Rosco Trim
05. Fairplay feat. Jenna G
06. Koolade feat. Toddla T & MdCL
07. Birth Of The Nanocloud Scene 2
08. Trouble In The Streets feat. Mark Pritchard
09. Neighbourhood feat. MC Rumpus & Micky Prince
10. Birth Of The Nanocloud Scene 3
11. Koolnahman feat. Specialist Moss
12. Lucid Dreams feat. Falty DL
13. Night Lovers feat. Sam Frank
14. Salsa Funk
15. Badness feat. Skream
16. All Out feat. Mighty Moe
17. Birth Of The Nanocloud Scene 4
18. Sinner

A guest-heavy new album from the UK Bass music pioneer. The names on show read like a mega-rave line-up from all corners of the modern Bass spectrum, and the sound is equally diverse, yet dripping with crucial Biasonic flavour. Highlights have to be the massive 'Trouble In The Streets' with the man-of-too-many-names-to-mention, Mark Pritchard (ok, well Africa HiTech for a start); the tidy update of his 'Neighbourhood' classic now with vox from MC Rumpus and Micky Prince; a sterling moment with Falty DL on the dainty but rude skip of 'Lucid Dreams'; the Hi-tech Latin mechanics of 'Salsa Funk'; and the rudee ragga-House of 'Phoneline'. It's all tied up with some mad-scientist concept narrative which is a bit daft, but kinda works well for an end-to-end listen...www.boomkat.com

Don Froth - Balboa / Von

1. Balboa
2. Von

Pure, 'floor-scorching JukeXGarage rinse-out from a rogue San Fran operator. To date Don's done Techy House fusions for Phonica's white label series and self-released a small clutch of Bass grooves besides engineering duties for DJ Harvey, but for our $, this is his best yet. A-side is a pumping number called 'Balboa' fusing springy bass hits with surging rave signals and canny sense of syncopation somewhere between Dance Mania's maddest moments and latinzied Joe-style groove. Flipside 'Von' is equally energetic, full of percolating club rhythms and mesmerizing Techno-Disco synthlines for the dancers. Sick!...www.boomkat.com

Hoya:Hoya Vol.3

1. Ikonika - Fleas
2. Om Unit - Fibonnaci 10
3. Monky - Hipster

Another haul of distinguished cuts from MCR's Hoya Hoya posse, including a straight acer from Ikonika. The UK's first lady of forward, ultra-synthetic grooves plays a blinder with 'Fleas', keeping the warehouse rhythm reserved but itchily infectious under arabesque synth vistas like the theme to some sci-fi anime set in Dubai circa 2067, when oil tycoons run the globe and Omar Souleyman broadcasts mega-concerts from the top of Burj Khalifa. Turn it and Om Unit hands his finest track to date with the ultra sharp calculations of 'Fibonacci 10', all staggered rhythmic swagger and battery-tang synth bubbles next to the gremlin-cute synth-step of Monky's 'Hipster'. Damn on it, got to say. TIP!...www.boomkat.com

Mosca - Done Me Wrong / Bax

1. Done Me Wrong
2. Bax

Impeccably effective Mosca moves on Numbers, his debut for the label, and - it's hard to believe - only his 2nd solo single to date! It's now nearly two years since the London-based producer kick-started the Night Slugs label with his 'Square One' ace, and in the meantime he's continued to establish a reputation as one of the capital's finest selectors, running everything from Bashment to Techno in his beloved DJ sets while notching up celebrated remixes of Four Tet and T. Williams, among others. For this outing he's in lean and mean 4/4 mode, finding his crux betwixt Bassline Garage and loved-up '90s House vibes for 'Done Me Wrong', and again with the deft skip 'n parry of 'Bax' and its rudeboy East London warehouse flavours. A big look for the DJs and the dancers. Tip!...www.boomkat.com

VHS Head - Midnight Section

1. Sundown
2. Jager
3. Decapitron
4. Nightmare Park
5. Death Dimension
6. Siege Express
7. Midnight Section

VHS Head’s Video Club and Trademark Ribbons Of Gold rank as some of the finest outer-tronic records of recent times, representing as they do a completely unique, IDM-inflected and VCR-mangling take on the whole hypnagogic/hauntological fetish for re-processing the half-forgotten TV memories of yesteryear. This new EP finds the ‘Head going for a slightly heavier, harder sound, and in doing so he really strikes gold, from the cathode-fried cosmic undulations of ‘Decapitron’ to the itchy glitch-boogie of ‘Death Dimension’ and ‘Siege Express’ - clearly he’s been raiding the mid-80s exploitation section of his vid collection for this one. There are some curveballs too, like the chopped-up cocaine funk of ‘Jager’ and the beautifully washed out synthorama of ‘Nightmare Park’. We end on the deceptively mellowtitle track, its shimmering xylophone tones edited to all f*ck, like Autechre or BoC remixing The Advisory Circle. Seven exemplary video nasties for all the aspiring Max Renns among you. Rewind!...www.boomkat.com

Hud Mo - Pleasure

1. Pleasure
2. Freek
3. Turn Me Off
4. Somebody
5. Party Animal

Stylus melting edit heat from Hud*** Mo*****, pressed on loud vinyl and housed in screen-printed sleeve! It's now been over 3 years since he dropped that dynamite buncha R&B and Hip Hop edits on the 'Ooops!' 12", which has since gone on to be (one of, if not his most) sought-after vinyl release. So this time out he's drawn for cherry picked vocal bombs from Janet Jackson, Jodeci, Aaliyah, Gucci Mane, Keri Hilsom and Lil Wayne, all pinched and tweaked to Glaswegian funk specifications. For us, the chromium-chords of his Janet Jackson 'Pleasure Principle' and that snapping, snakey and raved-out rebuild of Aailyah's 'Somebody' are the instant highlights, but everyone's going to have their own percival, it's just one of those records. If Royal Mail charged for added club weight on this, you'd all be f**ked. A BIG recommendation...www.boomkat.com

LV & Joshua Idehen - Northern Line (Radio Edit) / Primary Colours (Extended Mix)

1. Northern Line (Radio Edit)
2. Primary Colours (Extended Remix)

Triadic Bass unit, LV link with Joshua Idehen for a bubbling Funky roller in tidy style. 'Northern Line' is frisky one, featuring Idehen reciting names of stops along London Underground's Northern Line over subtly dynamic drum syncopations and a coldly hydraulic bassline. On a ruder flex, 'Primary Colours' jams on a friday-night fresh House vibe layered with cut-up samples and a rogue early '90s 'ardcore vibe. Cheeky...www.boomkat.com

Presk - Love Again EP

1. Devour
2. Love Again
3. Slick Rick
4. Headway

Presk’s recent debut drop on Fourth Wave took our breath away so it’s good to have him back so soon with a hefty EP for Doc Daneeka’s crafty Ten Thousand Yen label. Four tracks of thickset, UKF-infected techno from the Dutch producer: ‘Devour’ is a guaranteed anthem, a skippy little mover with some cut-throat edits and expertly deployed synth stabs for the tech-savvy steppers – think Hot City on a more sober but no funked tip. ‘Love Again’ and ‘Slick Rick’ are on a broken neo-garage thing, before ‘Headway’ lunges straight for the 4/4 jugular, greased along by oily chords and outrageously fat subs. Total dancefloor dynamite all the way, with more presence and energy than most chancers on the scene put together, recommended for fans of Julio Bashmore, Seiji, Kingdom, Daneeka, Joy O, Pearson Sound, Deadboy and the rest...www.boomkat.com

Lando Kal - Maneuver

1. Maneuver
2. Run It

Unmissable, advanced electronic funk from one half of Bay Area Hip Hop duo Lazer Sword, Lando Kal. He was last spotted rocking a stush cybersoul look on the 'Further/Time Out' 12" for Hotflush, and this one is equally nexx level. Frontside is the Robin S-referencing, Garage-swinging killer 'Maneuver', built from slydin', scissoring drum syncopations cut with 'ardcore edits and bold synth work for guaranteed dancefloor impact. Flipside is the stunning 'Run It', a sure-shot Electro/R&B-special for the future B-Boys. Recommended!!...www.boomkat.com

Untold - Bones (Joe / Rockwell Remixes)

A1 Bones (Joe’s Bones)
B1 Bones (Rockwell Remix)

Two heavweight remixes of man like Untold from two of the finest young producers out there, Joe and Rockwell. The mysterious Joe has released nothing but aces on Hessle Audio and Apple Pips, and here he squeezes Untold's 'Bones' into one of his customary taut, minimal stepper templates, one which for all its subtlety packs floor-crushing weight and elasticity. Rockwell's scuttling d 'n b reductions have resulted in some of the most arresting dance music of the past two years. Here he goes for a broader, more pummelling treatment than is usual for him, but listen loud and the full depth of the refix becomes clear - astonishing attention to detail, faultless engineering, all with a mind to tearing up the dance. Big!...www.boomkat.com

∆∆ - Sportex (Ikonika Mix)

1. Sportex
2. Sportex (Ikonika Remix)

So, no scene is immune to the symbol invasion, as ∆∆ aka Dimitri Dimas drops his debut on Pushing Red, sporting a truly superb Ikonika remix. His original 'Sportex' is a robust exercise in stripped and optimised 808-step run through with sparing acid licks and rugged uranium-flavoured synth pads. Flip it and you'll find what has to rank as one of the best remixes in Ikonika's catalogue, rejigging the flow with a deadly swagger while adding ultra-acrid melody and tranced out pads for proper, up-to-the-moment effect...www.boomkat.com

Teeth - Freqencies

1. Freqencies
2. OJ
3. SW
4. 19éme

The producer of the crucial 502 drop 'Shawty' - lean, moody and starlit garage-techno at its finest - decamps to Ramp Recordings for this stinging 4-track EP. You never really know what you're going to get from Teeth, except for the fact that it's going to be at once crisp and dubbed-out to all f*ck, and sure enough this 12" is all over the place, in the best possible sense. 'Frequencies' opens the ceremony tentatively, creating a captivating ambience out of little more than jeep-wobbling subs and eldritch vocal moans, one which sets the tone for 'OJ', a thumping garage roller brought to life by skeletal breakbeats peeling off its surface and a middle section of epic synth arpeggiation. The 808-heavy 'SW' begins like the meta-R&B of Rustie or Hud Mo if minimalism (rather than its opposite) was their watch-word, but Teeth's commitment to uptempo 4/4 ultimately takes it to somewhere entirely, and then '19eme' sees us out with scuffed techno chords riding a rugged 2-step flex. It's hard to adequately define Teeth's music - techno for UKG nuts is about the best we can manage - all you really need to know is that it bangs...www.boomkat.com

Champion - Lighter EP

1. Lighter
2. Bongoshot
3. Lighter (VIP)

Absolute massive Funky anthem from one of the scene's most deadly weapons. 'Lighter' is certfied anthem for summer 2011, figuring in the sets of all players from Marcus Nasty to Butterz and the Wifey crew. For proof of it's dynamite effect, we recommend hunting down and rinsing his recent set for the Butterz & Hardrive night over on mixcloud or the Butterz site! Additional to this 12", you'll find the shades-on roll of 'Bongoshot' and a stealthier VIP of 'Lighter' on the flip. Maximum damage. Highly recommended!!!...www.boomkat.com

Dark Sky - Radius EP

1. Speeding Blue
2. Neon
3. The Lick
4. Be Myself

Smart new 4-track EP from Dark Sky on Modeselektor's increasingly hyperactive 50 Weapons imprint. 'Speeding Blue' is a nice 'n oily little number, delicately ravey chords bending around galloping, post-UKF snares and rising subs - swung house perfection, basically. Neon is on a techier tip, slinky 'Show Me Love'-style riffage colliding with distant diva strains across a broken 4/4 superbly styled for the steppers. On 'The Lick' teams almost sino-grimey licks over a lean breakbeat house riddim, and 'Be Myself' comes over like a more tracky, Continental-friendly answer to Swamp81's raw 808 bangers. This is really a top-notch EP, and if like us you've been biding your time waiting for Dark Sky to properly deliver the goods, you'll be pleased to know the wait is over. Lean, mean dancefloor hybrids, emphatically 2011-style, and highly recommended...www.boomkat.com

Contakt & Mayster - Korak EP

1. Korak
2. Opar
3. Opar (Doc Daneeka Remix)
4. Korak (Matt Shadetek Remix)

Off the back of his Local Action roller, Contakt links with Mayser for two crisp and slick Funky-Tech joints backed by Doc Daneeka and Matt Shadetek remixes. 'Korak' layers sharp bleeps and lazer-guided squelch stabs on a shuffling Funky-tek rhythm, while 'Opar' is more classic, chords-driven House. Doc Daneeka embellishes this vibe with tidy congas and bubbling synth surfaces, but Matt Shadetek's is the one to check, turning 'Korak' with a Mexicano Tribal tuck...www.boomkat.com

Visionist / Lorca - W.M.I.D / Hold Back

1. W.M.I.D
2. Hold Back
3. Hold Back (Valentin Stip Dream Away Mix)
4. Slapstickk

After Vessel's superb opening gambit Left Blank dilate their vision to take in clipped 808 Funk and emosh electronica from the highly touted Visionist and Lorca. Ahead of his release for Oneman's 502 label, Visionist jams on a smart 808 thing, springing off deftly tucked and diffused drums under warm and dubbed-out pads. While Lorca's 'Hold Back' is a sweeter roller, running sparse rhythms between lush subs and floating IDM-soul chords. Tip!...www.boomkat.com

Jam City - Waterworx EP

1. Aqua Box
2. Countless
3. Island
4. Barely A Trak
5. Waterfalls

The clue to the sound of opening bomb 'Aqua Box' is in the title: imagine a pumping Chicago box jam torpedoed down to the ocean floor and souped up with some South London subs and you're in business. 'Countess' is the kind of grime-influenced house at which JC so excels; militant, broken drum syncopations buttressing spiky, stop-start electro arpeggios to bone-crushing effect. 'Island' has been knocking around on dubplate for the best part of two years; it's lost none of its lustre in the interim, butch 808 drums jolting and jabbing around airy, melancholy synth sounds - an out-and-out masterpiece, just killer. 'Barely A Trak' takes the tried and tested formula of combining UKF syncopations and bending Moomin synths, but caresses it into something properly unique with the help of some nifty edits and an 'ardkore-style vocal loop. 'Waterfalls' gestures towards Chicago again, with its Virgo-esque tom hits and starlit synths, but breaks down into something altogether more mutant and LDN-flavoured. Banging, breathlessly imaginative stuff from start to finish...www.boomkat.com
