Owen Ashworth's fifth album strays from the strictly electronic instrumentation and trademark Casiotone keyboards of his earlier recordings. Instead, it's built largely on the sounds of piano, organ, Mellotron, and acoustic percussion, both live and sampled. Guest appearances by Quever, Julie Lispector, and The Donkeys. Despite the guests and shift in instrumentation, "Vs. Children" feels just as warm and intimate as the first album. It also marks the continuing evolution of an idiosyncratic singer, songwriter, and producer.
