Best known as the lead singer for the Philadelphia-based progressive punk act Circa Survive, vocalist Anthony Green has finally released his solo album, Avalon. Prior to Circa Survive, Green fronted Saosin, where his super-human vocals were first recognized — his undeniably unique vocal styling and charismatic personality elevated him as the premiere leader in his genre. But on Avalon, he has traded in the wailing guitars and screamed vocals of his usual work for a much more stripped down, acoustic sound for his latest endeavor. His unmatched vocal range is met with lyrics that your heart melt and for good reason, this is an album that has been in the works for years and years. Green presents a nearly flawless folk album with a sprinkle of a pop feeling.
The record opens with She Loves Me So, a track with the organic feeling of a simple drum beat with acoustic guitar and Green’s beautiful vocals making for an incredibly enjoyable listen. Drug Dealer is a stripped down gem dealing with self-hate and self medication. Tracks like Miracle Sun and Califone do the best at capturing the simple, acoustic vibe of the record. Green’s vocals never fail to impress and are constantly reaching notable levels. He tackles alt-country with Stonehearted Man and channels his inner Bob Dylan on the harmonica infused Slowing Down (Long Time Coming).
But while the album does span twenty tracks written by Green over the past ten years, only the first eleven songs are unique. The filler contains early versions of Avalon tracks and demos of an older Green fronted side project, High and Driving. A small complaint though — Avalon is no way perfect, but its weak spots are decidedly overshadowed by its bright spots. Encompassing genres from folk rock to alt-country and even electronica, this record is a unique combination of experimentation and finely crafted tunes...www.indieducky.com

Released in conjunction with the limited edition of the Vinyl format for Avalon available in January of 2009. Definitely a must-have for all Circa Survive true fans whom greatly enjoyed Anthony’s solo work. I DEMAND that if you enjoy it, you hurry and grab a copy of the album from the purchase link provided.
